Why is my iPhone showing the wrong number on iMessage or Facetime?

If your iPhone is showing the wrong phone number for iMessage or FaceTime, it’s usually after a recent change, like swapping your SIM, upgrading your phone or moving your number to Vodafone.

Your iPhone doesn’t always update to your new number automatically, so iMessage and Facetime can still show the wrong one. The steps that follow will help you check and fix this so your number shows correctly.

iMessage:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and make sure iMessage is turned on

  2. Select Send & Receive

  3. Under You can receive iMessages to and reply from, check your current Vodafone number is selected

  4. Under Start new conversations from, make sure your phone number is selected

  5. If your number isn’t selected, choose it and wait a few moments for it to activate.

FaceTime:

  1. Go to Settings > Phone

  2. Check My Number shows your current Vodafone number

  3. If your number is wrong, update it, replacing the first 0 with +44 then save.

Reset iMessage and FaceTime:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage

  2. Go to Settings > Phone and turn off FaceTime

  3. Restart your iPhone

  4. Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on back on.

  5. Once iMessage and FaceTime have been turned back on, go back into your Settings and check your phone number is now showing correctly in Messages and Phone.
