Bringing fans closer to the action with the power of 5G+

Vodafone's world-first 5G+ Serve showcased the power of its 5G+, also known as 5G Standalone, during The Championships, Wimbledon. Using a dedicated 5G+ network slice, live serve data from the Wimbledon broadcast feed was captured and streamed instantly to a first-of-its-kind robotic arm, giving fans the chance to take on real serves from the world's best players as they happened.

The speed, reliability and low latency of Vodafone's 5G+ allowed the exact speed, angle and trajectory of Centre Court and No.1 Court serves to be replicated in real time, creating a whole new experience for tennis fans.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon, powered by Vodafone

‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’, powered by Vodafone and its inclusive categories, returns for 2026.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon (PYWTW) is the UK’s largest mass participation tennis competition. The 2023 competition saw the introduction of wheelchair, visually impaired, and learning disability categories. In the future, we could see new categories like para-standing and deaf tennis.

Entries for the 2026 competition closed in February, with thousands of players from clubs, parks, and schools across the UK stepping forward – with rackets in hand – to take part. Powered by Vodafone, the competition helps more people get on court, build confidence, and play their way towards the iconic grass of Wimbledon.

How we helped visually impaired fans at Wimbledon 2023

We used our 5G technology to help visually impaired tennis fans watch the live action on Centre Court and Number 1 Court.

Using live footage from local TV cameras, the 5G-powered headsets developed by GiveVision enhanced the footage to suit the wearer's specific sight profile, which helped them enjoy the championship.
