How do I test my internet speed?
We use Ookla’s Speedtest to measure your current internet speed.
To get the most accurate results, use a laptop connected to your router with an ethernet cable. If connecting through WiFi, make sure you’re close to your router and have a strong signal. Results will be dependent on your device’s capability.

Latency
Latency is measured by your device sending a message to a server and the server sends a reply back. This test is repeated multiple times with the lowest value determining the final result.
Download speed
Tests your download Internet connection speed of your broadband service.
Upload speed
Tests your upload Internet connection speed of your broadband service.
Your internet speed test result will tell you how well your internet is performing in these four key areas:
Download speed: The number of Mbps it takes to download data from a server (for example, images or videos). A higher number means faster speeds. The speed you require depends on your needs, for example, a large family with multiple devices would benefit from 400 Mbps or more.
Upload speed: How fast your internet connection can send information (for example, sending an email or video calling). A higher number means faster speeds. Upload speeds of 3 Mbps and above are considered good, however, if you frequently video call or stream you will benefit from a higher upload speed.
Jitter: Your broadband’s time delay when sending data. If your connection has a lot of jitter you may find that your video call audio quality isn’t good or your calls often drop. The lower the jitter, the better these connections will be.
Ping: Also known as latency, this is your connection’s reaction time. This is particularly important when playing video games. Pings of 100ms or below are average, while lower numbers in the 30s and below are exceptional, providing a smooth gaming experience.
There are a number of factors that can affect the speed of your broadband. Here are some terms we use when talking about broadband speed:

Sync speed
Sync speed is only relevant for part-fibre broadband, and is the speed of your broadband between the roadside cabinet and the router in your home. Sync speed can be affected by the distance from your building to the cabinet, the internal wiring of your house and if the router is connected to a telephone extension cable. If you're a part-fibre customer, you can check your sync speed on the Home Broadband app
Network speed
Network speed is only relevant for 5G Broadband. It refers to the speed of the 5G connection in your local area – the speed your 5G Hub or Outdoor Hub can receive from your local 5G network tower. Your 5G Hub and Outdoor Hub have lights on them that indicate your 5G Broadband signal strength. You also can check the general status of our 5G network in your area using our Network Status Checker
Throughput speed
Throughput speed is the speed achieved between your router (your Power Hub, Ultra Hub, Ultra Hub 7, WiFi Hub, or 5G Hub) and the devices in your home. The speed your device can get is depends on:
The speed of your broadband connection
The capability of your device
The number of devices in your home connected to your WiFi
The signal strength of your WiFi connection
Where your router is placed – make sure it’s in an open space, away from other electronics, and away from large or reflective objects

That depends on how many people are using the internet at the same time, and what they're using it for. Some tasks, like streaming an HD movie on Netflix, or large file downloads or uploads, are particularly bandwidth-hungry. Whereas downloading a Word document or browsing Facebook will use up very little bandwidth.
Smaller households with moderate internet use will be able to take advantage of our great value fibre/full fibre plans, starting at 35 Mbps (average download speed). While larger households can benefit from speeds of 150 Mbps or more, especially if working from home.

Annual Price Increase: Each year, on 1 April, the monthly plan increases by £3.50. Out of bundle charges will increase each April by Consumer Price Index rate published in January that year +3.9%. Vodafone Pro Broadband
Vodafone Broadband Backup: Your broadband back-up dongle is intended to give you a connection to our 4G network, when there is a total loss of service on your fixed line broadband. You will receive 100GB of data with your 4G dongle. If you run out of data, please contact our WiFi Xperts, who may add extra data as needed at no additional cost. In order to use the 4G dongle as intended, you should ensure it is plugged into your Vodafone Pro Broadband router. The 4G dongle is not a direct replacement for your fixed line broadband. As the 4G dongle connects to our mobile network, the service, speed and consistency of your connection may vary due to a number of factors, including location, coverage and demand. You must only use your dongle when you have a fault with your fixed line broadband and you must not roam with your dongle. Vodafone Super WiFi: One WiFi Booster is supplied as standard with your Vodafone router. Up to three WiFi Boosters can be provided at no additional cost if you do not receive WiFi signal and throughput speeds of at least 10 Mbps in each room of your home. Right to leave with no early termination fee if you do not get WiFi signal and throughput speeds of at least 10 Mbps in each room of your home, after installing all three WiFi Boosters and contacting us to try to resolve. Vodafone Broadband Xperts: Our Broadband Xperts, Vodafone’s dedicated home broadband service team, are available over the phone 8am to 8pm Monday to Sunday (and public holidays) to assist with any technical problems you have with your broadband. The Broadband Xperts will try to resolve any technical issues you have with your broadband but they may not be able to do so in all cases. Our Broadband Xperts will not visit you at your home and will only try to resolve issues remotely, but they can arrange for an engineer to visit your home if needed. Vodafone Xtra
Apple TV 4K on us: You will receive your Apple TV 4K device at the same time as receiving your Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub. One Apple TV 4K per customer. If you upgrade to a Vodafone Broadband Xtra plan after 25 August 2023 but you have previously received an Apple TV 4K device from us, you will not be eligible for an additional Apple TV 4K device if you recommit to a Vodafone Broadband Xtra plan in the future. Not all content is available in 4K. 4K resolution requires 4K-capable TV. Accessing Dolby Atmos features requires Dolby Atmos-capable devices. You will own the Apple 4K TV device 14 days after activation of your Xtra Home Broadband service.
Anytime Landline and Mobile calls: Applies to the first 60 minutes of UK landlines (numbers beginning 01, 02, 03) and UK mobile numbers (numbers beginning with 07) which you dial directly. Inclusive calls are to UK mobiles only (this does not include other numbers that begin with 07 such as WiFi services etc.). Home Phone
Call costs and subscription features: Details of our call costs (including a complete list of all our premium rate and international call costs and charges) are set out in our Vodafone Broadband and Home Phone Price Plan. The costs of any features or feature bundles which include a monthly subscription charge are also included in this Price Plan. Please note that any features or feature bundles must be retained for a minimum of 30 days.
Evening and weekend calls: You may purchase extra call bundles allowing calls to certain numbers at particular times of the day. This is how we define these times:
'Daytime' is 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday
'Evening' is 7pm to 7am, Monday to Friday
'Weekend' is all day Saturday and Sunday (midnight Friday to midnight Sunday). Please note that bank holidays are treated as normal weekends.
Anytime calls: Can be made during daytime, evening and weekend periods. Max call duration is 60 minutes - standard call charges will apply after 60 minutes.
Number Transfer: Our ability to transfer your number is subject to availability.
