How Vodafone EVO works

Your total monthly cost is split into two separate contracts, which means two monthly Direct Debits. Your Phone Plan covers the cost of the phone itself, and your Airtime Plan covers the cost of your data, minutes and texts each month (you might know this as a SIM plan).

Phone Plans last between 3-36 months. Our Airtime Plans are 12 or 24 months, and will roll on a monthly basis once the contract is finished.

What's Lifetime Warranty?

We'll cover your device for repairs against manufacturer faults for as long as you have a Pay monthly Airtime Plan with us. See terms and conditions

What's Battery Refresh?

Who's eligible for Lifetime Service Promise?

Any customer who bought a phone on Vodafone EVO from 26 July 2023 onwards is eligible for Lifetime Service Promise. This includes all refurbished phones.

When you buy a phone on one of our Vodafone EVO plans, your monthly payment will be split into two parts. You'll have one Direct Debit for your Device Plan and one for your Airtime plan. Add these together and you'll get the total cost of your monthly payment.

Phone Plan covers the monthly cost of your phone as per your Consumer Credit Agreement.

Airtime Plan covers the cost of your airtime (data, minutes and texts)

Find out more information on Phone Plans, Xtra Plans and credit agreements

In most cases, the Direct Debit payments for your plans will come out on the same date, but you might see one of the payments at different times of the month. Please make sure you don't cancel either of these Direct Debit payments, as we'll be unable to collect the payment for either your airtime or your device. You'll see two references on your bank statement. It will show the following:

Airtime: VODAFONE LTD
Device: VODAFONE LTD DEVICE

If you want to change your Direct Debits so that both payments come out on a different week, give us a call on 191

Where can I view both my monthly payments?

Download the My Vodafone app and go to the Dashboard. Choose Your Plans and you'll see a tab for Airtime Plan and a tab for Device Plan.

Choose Airtime Plan to confirm what data, minutes, texts and Xtra Plan benefits you have.

Choose Device Plan to view and manage your Phone Plan - this includes your annual statements and original credit agreement. Here, you can also check upcoming payments and how much you've paid towards your Phone Plan so far.

You can also view your monthly payment online in your My Vodafone account

What about other devices available on Vodafone Evo?

For details on how Vodafone EVO works for smartwatches, tablets and laptops, please go to the All devices available on Vodafone EVO section of this page, and choose the device you'd like more information about. This will take you to a page with more information and dedicated FAQs relating to that type of device.

All our Pay monthly phones, smartwatches, laptops, iPads and tablets are available on Vodafone EVO. The cost of your device will be covered by your Device Plan (also known as your Phone Plan, Watch Plan, Tablet Plan or Laptop Plan, depending on your device).

Depending on the device you choose, you’ll then need to pair it with either an Airtime Plan, Connectivity Plan or Data Plan (as applicable). The cost of both plans together will make up your total monthly cost.

Can I pay for my device in one go?

If you would like to pay for the full cost of your device upfront, visit us in store for more information and full terms and conditions.

With Vodafone EVO, you can choose the length of your Device Plan. You can spread the cost of phones and smartwatches from 3 to 36 months, while laptops and tablets are between 3 to 48 months.

Airtime Plans (Xtra Plans) are available on either a 12-month or 24-month plan.
If you choose a Phone Plan of 13 months or more, it will be paired with a 24-month Airtime Plan. If you choose a Phone Plan of 12 months or less, you can choose whether to pair it with a 12-month or a 24-month Airtime Plan.

Data Plans (for laptops and tablets) are all on 24-month plans, while Connectivity Plans (for smartwatches) last either 12 or 24 months.

You'll be able to upgrade your Device Plan from three months into your Airtime Plan, Data Plan or Connectivity Plan.

Log in to find out when you're eligible to upgrade and what your upgrade options are. You can also view this information in My Vodafone or the My Vodafone app

What happens to my current Device Plan when I upgrade to a new one?

If you have an outstanding payment on your current Device Plan, you'll have two options:

Pay off your current Device Plan before upgrading

Take out a new Device Plan, which will run alongside your current one. These will show as two separate Direct Debits on your bank statement.

Your Airtime Plan, Data Plan or Connectivity Plan

When you upgrade your Device Plan, your current Airtime Plan, Data Plan or Connectivity Plan will end and a new one will be taken out with your upgrade.

Please note: your Airtime Plan, Data Plan or Connectivity Plan is billed separately to your Device Plan(s) and will show as a separate Direct Debit.

How do I pay off my phone early?

You can make additional payments to your Phone Plan at any time, by logging into your My Vodafone account online, or by visiting the My Vodafone app and choosing Your Plans > Device Plan.

Choose to pay off some, or all of, your Phone Plan early. Once it's paid off, you can continue with your current Xtra Plan, upgrade or leave. If you choose to continue with your Xtra Plan, you'll only pay to keep connected, so your monthly payment will be lower.

Can I make a one-off payment for my Phone Plan?

You can make a one-off payment for your Phone Plan at any point. This reduces the amount you pay monthly for all following payments - but it won't change the length of the Phone Plan agreement.

What happens once my phone has been paid off?

Once you've paid off your Phone Plan, you can continue with your current Xtra Plan, upgrade or leave.

If you choose to continue with your Xtra Plan, you'll only pay to keep connected, so your monthly payment will be lower.

Find out more about what happens when you pay off your Phone Plan in full

If you'd like to end your Airtime Plan early, you have the following options:

  • If it's within our 14-day returns period, you can return your device and cancel both your Device Plan and Airtime Plan together

  • Pay off your Device Plan in full and you'll be released from your Airtime Plan contract

Please note: Returns during your cooling off period (first 14 days), can only be done with both Airtime and Loan (Device) plan agreements together. If your Airtime and Loan agreements are still in commitment and you would like to cancel, you will be required to pay an early termination fee (ETF) to cancel the Airtime. If you would like to pay your Loan agreement early and in full, you will be released from your Airtime commitment.

Available alongside a Pay monthly phone or as a SIM only, Xtra Plans are our new Airtime Plans loaded with Xtra benefits, designed to help you get the most out of your phone. They're available as 12-month or 24-month plans.

Just like our regular Pay monthly plans, you get the same great choice of airtime (data, minutes and texts). Plus, all our usual benefits. But with Xtra Plans, you also get a load of Xtra benefits that aren't included with any of our other plans.

Visit the My Vodafone app to find out which Xtra benefits are included with your Xtra Plan. Your benefits don’t have an expiry date, they last as long as your Xtra Plan.

When you reach the end of your Xtra Plan, you don't need to do anything - you'll simply move onto a rolling contract and your benefits will continue as long as you keep your plan.

Buying a refurbished phone has a lower carbon footprint than buying a new one

Substantiation:

A life cycle assessment study (Pamminger, R., Glaser, S. and Wimmer, W., Modelling of different circular end-of-use scenarios for smartphones. International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment (2021) 26:470-482) found that a refurbished phone (used for an average 1.93 years) can have a 55% lower contribution to climate change (or 'GWP') compared to a new phone (used for 2.5 years) (according to the study results shown on page 479).

Based on this study, buying and using a refurbished phone can be considered to be kinder to the planet in comparison to buying and using a new phone, because it has a lower negative impact on climate change.
