MIL-STD-810G

What does MIL-STD-810G mean?

MIL-STD-810G is a military specification that guarantees a level of durability for a smartphone or any other device in harsh environmental conditions.

Devices which carry this rating have gone through a series of tough tests, including heat, cold, shock, humidity and even gunfire. Technology with this specification is used in the military as it’s considered ‘combat-ready’, although the average person may also need a phone with a MIL-STD-810G rating.

If you work outdoors a lot or you love hiking or climbing, a smartphone with a MIL-STD-810G rating is a must. They're also good for people who work in construction as a business phone.

If the device you want doesn’t have this rating, you could always invest in a screen protector or case to help add an extra level of protection. If you do buy a case or screen protector, please check the manufacturer's guide for more information on the protection it offers.

MIL-STD-810G devices also typically come with IP water resistance ratings, so they’re designed to be able to survive submersion in water up to a certain depth and time. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 series has been classified as MIL-STD-810G, 5ATM and IP68.
